Prerequisites
Prerequisites: use of English at elementary level; basic computer skills, including word processing and spreadsheet.
Objectives
Students should become familiar with the evolution, structure and composition of the earth, be able to identify common minerals and rocks, and major mechanisms of degradation and changeability and know conventional binders as well as identify mortars and deterioration mechanisms.
Program
1. Physical states and structure of matter; 2. Formation of mineral matter; 3. Solid-liquid interaction; 4. Emergence and evolution of our planet; 5. Formation of igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks; 6. Changeability and degradation of rocks applied to cultural heritage; 7. Adhesive materials and mortars.
Evaluation Methodology
Theoretical component (75%) assessed through an open-book written exam.
Theoretical-practical component (25%) assessed through a monograph based on literature review.
